The Model Context Protocol (MCP), a universal standard for connecting AI applications to external systems, with widespread adoption across platforms and infrastructure, is being donated to the Agentic AI Foundation (AAIF) by its founders. The AAIF is a fund under the Linux Foundation - aimed at fostering transparent, collaborative evolution of agentic AI - and is supported by major stakeholders such as Google, Microsoft, Amazon Web Services, Cloudflare, and Bloomberg.
